About TeraScale

TeraScale, LLC is a mechanics software development company founded in New Mexico with offices in Cedar Crest, New Mexico and in Berkeley, California. The company develops high-performance, distributed-memory parallel computing software for engineering mechanics applications.

Our People

Dr. Lee M. Taylor, President, TeraScale, LLC, has over 20 years experience developing high performance nonlinear finite element. He co-developed the Pronto2D and Pronto3D explicit dynamics codes while at Sandia National Laboratories. These research codes are used extensively within the academic and DOE communities to model high velocity impact, contact dominated events. In 1989, he joined Hibbitt, Karlsson & Sorensen, Inc to commercialize the technology found in the Pronto applications. In this role he led the team that created ABAQUS/Explicit, a commercial general purpose, explicit dynamics product that is widely used throughout the world by both commercial organizations and defense agencies. In 1996, Dr. Taylor returned to Sandia National Laboratories as the Principal Investigator of Sandia's Accelerated Strategic Computing Initiative (ASCI) software development effort. He was the chief architect of Sandia's SIERRA framework; the basis of Sandia's software development for high performance, massively parallel finite element applications. SIERRA-base applications at Sandia have shown exceptional scalability on thousands of processors.

In 1999, Dr. Taylor founded TeraScale, LLC in an effort to bring the massively parallel computational methods developed at the National Laboratories into the commercial use for mainstream engineering organizations.

Dr. Taylor received his PhD degree in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1981, a Masters degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1977 and a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976.

Colin Potter joined TeraScale in 2001 after graduating from the University of California at Santa Cruz with a BA in Computer Science. Colin has developed our Grok graphical user interface and its configuration tools. He is also responsible for our system administration and software porting efforts. Colin provides customer support for installation and configuration issues. He also is our webmaster.
